Bluies 2017: 24th Nov - 17th Dec

Wed Jun 28, 2017 4:51 pm

Shameless ctrl+c/ctrl+v.
Bluies is on the way and this here be a placeholder post while the finer details are put in place. Feel free to start signing up now though as it's never too early to get on board the hype train. This post will be updated with information as it comes (and I get access to post links/images).

The time has come to sign up below to reserve your spot among your Cliffhangers comrades in the trip that will trump all trips. This is not one to miss, ask any Cliffhanger you see wearing a Bluies shirt. If you have never been to Bluies before, think thousands of world-class routes on stunning sandstone cliffs all day and hanging out with the mates every night. Not to mention the good times to be had during convoy chaos, bulk delicious meals prepared by your fellow Changers, Pub? Pub!, canyoning, slacklining, multis, cliff-jumping and more.

Image

This year we are staying in the same house as last year which is very close to half a dozen very cool crags including Engineers Cascade, Zig Zag, Corroboree Walls Renitz Pass, Mt Piddington, Pindari and Boronia Point. Also it is five (FIVE!) minutes walk from the Mt Victoria pub, the best pub in the Bluies, and possibly the world (totally unbiased opinion).

Check out these videos from Bluies 2012 and 2013 to get PSYCHED

What you get:

• Your very own Bluies 2017 Tshirt!
• Breakfasts and Dinners (you will also get to experience cooking for a horde of hungry climbers)
• Accommodation at the Bluies house
• Transport to and from the plethora of Crags around Bluies
• Bluies Christmas!
• Some of the most amazing climbing experiences you could imagine
• Good times and sick memories

When:

This year Convoy Chaos will be heading down November 24. Further details including car list and location of departure will be determine closer to the date. We'll camp in Hat Head National Park in NSW on the Saturday night, before continuing the journey down to Bluies on Sunday morning. There we will remain until Sunday 17th December.

You can stay for the whole time or as short as you want, just make sure you specify dates in your sign-up below!

Getting There:

The convoy is a major part of the tradition of heading to Blue Mountains. (It’s important to have many cars and drivers going to Blue Mountain because they’ll also be taking us to the crags). We usually drive for about six hours and then camp overnight at Hat Head National Park, almost on the beach. The next day we complete our journey passing scenic Sydney and heading west to our destination, Mount Victoria. After three weeks the convoy will return home, drivers discretion if they want to stop overnight or drive all the way home in a single day.

If you want to come down or leave mid-trip you are welcome to, however you will have to organise you own transport. There is a train which can get you from Sydney to within walking distance of the Bluies house, so ask around if you are looking into this. Make sure in your sign up you specify whether you will be included in the convoy or if you will make your own way there and back.

Image

Costs:

The main trip cost is worked out based on the number of nights you are staying, and will cover most of your food (breakfast and a three course dinner), a t-shirt, house rental, fuel and any other misc "house" costs. The actual cost is dependent on the number of attendees and how long they stay. The longer you stay, the less you pay per night. It was obviously cost less per person as the number of attendees increases, as accommodation is split evenly between members.

Extra costs include if you’re coming or going with the convoy, roughly $60 each way. Drivers collect fuel money from the club only if travelling with convoy, otherwise they collect the split fuel money from their own passengers and not exceeding actual fuel costs. Again this year, it will be cheaper for you to stay in the last one/two weeks of the trip instead of the first one/two in order to get a more even spread of people across the 3 weeks.

An estimation is for a passenger in the convoy for the entire 3 weeks, the trip will cost approximately $500. This will obviously fluctuate depending on number of attendees.
Deposit in advance is compulsory to make your booking for the Bluies trip and complete payment is expected before your arrival date. Final prices will be available closer to the date.

BONUS! If you make a $100 deposit for the Blue Mountains before Friday 9th of September you will get your 2017 Bluies shirt for free!!!

Make your transfer to:
QUT Cliffhangers
Mecu Limited
BSB: 313 140
Acc No.: 2319 8512

How to Join:

If you want to come or have any more questions talk to any of the Bluies coordinators (Brendan or Marcus) or ask other members who have been before who will tell you how sick it is.

It is not necessary, but would be very useful if you have been signed off as a seconder before Bluies. Trust me, none of the leaders want to be spending their valuable Bluies time teaching how to clean anchors; we'd much prefer to do it at KP beforehand. Speak to the Skills Coordinator or an experienced cliffhanger about what you need to do to get signed off.

If you're keen to come along, we need the following details.

Name: Sandy Stone
Dates: 19/11/16 to the 1/12/16
Experience: Seconder
Transport: Convoy Down, Own transport back
Gear needs? Yes - seconder kit
Tent needs: Can offer a 3-4 man
Other camping needs: None
Dietary Requirements/Allergies: Vegetarian
Driver: I own a car, I'm happy to drive it, but don't have to bring it if its not needed.
Shirt Size: Small

REMEMBER! If you put your (100% refundable) $100 deposit in before the 9th of September then you'll get your 2017 Bluies shirt for FREE! There will also be a forum thread where you can participate in creating the shirt design coming very soon!
