Easter Brooyar 2017! - Thu 13/4 to Mon 17/4

Mon Mar 20, 2017 8:46 am

This is definitely our biggest and best camping trip of the year, you do not want to miss this!
For a little background, Brooyar is the club's closer home away from home, for when we can’t get down to the Blue Mountains but want to rip ourselves up on some sandstone and have a great time with mates. The climbing area is located in the Brooyar State Forest North west of Gympie, which is about a 2.5 hour drive from Brisbane.

When:
The plan is to drive up in the afternoon/evening of Thursday 13th, returning on the afternoon of Monday 17th. Please state in your sign-up post if you will be attending for the entire trip, or only for specific dates. If you are flexible with arrival/departure dates, please say so as this may help us to plan carpooling.

Climbs
There are several beautiful sandstone crags offering a wide range of climbing styles and grades, ensuring there is something for everyone! The climbing quality is great, and you'll never look at KP the same way again once you've climbed here. Styles include everything from slab to overhung and face climbing. Check out the Crag here and get those tick lists started.

Transport
Car pooling will be organised after signup closes. It will be up to you to organise pick ups in Brisbane with your driver/passengers. If you are a passenger on this trip you will need $20 fuel money ($10 each way) to give to your driver. Google maps link.

What to bring

WATER: There is no drinking water at Brooyar, bring at least 3 litres for yourself per day.

Camping gear: tent, sleeping bag (and mat), pillow, cutlery, bowl, cup etc
If you have them: portable stove, esky, firewood. Please organise your camping gear (tents, esky) in advance. If you have extra space in your tent, or other camping gear you are willing to lend, please mention it in your sign-up post so others requiring said gear can contact you about it.

Climbing gear: harness, shoes, belay device, helmet and safeties at a bare minimum. If you need to borrow any gear, organise with Quartermasters Andrew and/or Josiah early on (at least two KP nights before the trip).

Food: Enough food to sustain you for your entire trip. If you have an esky or are sharing an esky cold food is good, however if you don't own an esky then it is recommended that you bring dry food, and/or fruits and veg, nothing that needs to be cold and won't go off. It's club tradition to go to Pizza Hut in Gympie for all-you-can-eat dinner on one of the nights.

Camping Permit: Hopefully we can organise whoppa's land to camp on, will keep you updated.

Rubbish: Brooyar is pack it in, pack it out. There are no bins anywhere, so give some thought to minimising the amount of packaging you bring, and how you're going to carry it back out. (eg, re-usable containers instead of disposable plastic, cans instead of bottles, prepare food ahead to reduce waste, bring rubbish bags)

Check out the Crag here and get those tick lists started:

What Dave failed to mention:

- Baileys shots from Easter Eggs (fucking amazing)
- Pizza Hut Challenge (In one of the last dine-in Pizza Hut's in the country, we aim to eat EVERYTHING faster than they can replace it, including the ice cream)
- Cow-shit creek for a nice cool-off
- Campfire shenanigans
- Quality climbing of all grades, whether you're wanting to just cruise along on some grade 12s, or push it hard on some grade 25+
- Literally 4 days of camping with some of the best people you'll meet

!!!If you're lacking camping equipment!!!

I have two spaces in my tentfull, as well as a double air-mattress for anyone who doesn't want to sleep outside. We HAVE had 4 people sleep in it before, but that's just a little too cosy.

I also have a camp stove for anyone who needs to cook their own food. Anyone feel like sharing meals?

I'll probably bring my small esky, which will be reserved for perishable food, (and space for someone else's too probably) so I'd love if someone has room for my beer.

Don't forget to bring a chair... I ain't sharing mine!

Full Name: Brendan Coulter
Current logbook sign-off: TL
Transport: driving Claudia and Nicole
Dates: Departing Brisbane 8am Friday morning, coming home Monday night
Camping needs: I would love some esky space. In exchange, I can provide use of my hammock and my cooking gear. Could also just give you a beer.

I've got a spare spot in my tent, space in my esky and cooking gear.

If anyone needs I also have a spare sleeping mat and sleeping bag. Just arrange with me before hand if you want to use it.

We have to find a Brooyar Log this trip as well. No good Brooyar session is complete without the iconic Brooyar Log
