Trips and Events Log

Wed Feb 13, 2013 9:46 am

Welcome to the new hub of the adventures for the QUT Cliffhangers. This thread is the posting point for any trip, social event, adventure or shenanigans which club members are involved in.

What to post: Any legitimate trips and organised social events ( ie. no posting random pub trips or urban boulder sessions)

The following rules were decided on in regards to the posting
Logging of KP events: The person who opens the shed posts the details
Logging of social events: Social coordinator
Logging of trips: If club gear is involved it gets logged

Here is an example of the basic structure
Date: Tuesday 4/01
Duration: 9 hrs
Participants: 5
Description: Super secret new crag trip

Feel free to spice up the description with note worthy incidents which happened during the event. The idea of this is to make this thread is not merely just a log but a place people can laugh learn and be inspired by others adventures.

KP Monday 11/02
Duration: 3hrs 30min 15 attendees
Set climbs at RASP, IW, TR etc. Adam twisted my arm into leading The Stoat Steps Out (21). Verdict is still out on TSSO I was soft (in the words of Will) and wimped out at the crux leaving him to finish it. Solid effort on his behalf though he flashed the climb the top belay setup took half an hour making it a 9 50 curry.

Duration 3 hrs 16 attendees
Set climbs LPSW etc near the shed. Adams lead challenge was Chuba Chup Mods or CCM much more enjoyable than the previous TSSO with me receiving a pink point tick.

Coolum Sunday 17th Feb

Duration: 4.5 hours
Attendees: 6
Left Sunday morning for Cooolum and despite a rainy trip up there was a great day for climbing! Jesse nearly got to the top of crazy horny, Soph made a great start of Chevvy, Will sent Caught buy the Fuzz (25) after three attempt, Ryan began work on Caught by the Fuzz, did what could be done of Chevvy, and ended the day on Crazy Horny and Brendan did what could be done of Chevvy and Crazy Horny and I clipped the fourth draw on Chevvy without stopping and was only stopped from sending it completely by the rain making the climb wet (well thats my excuse!)
was a great day all round! :D

I didn't see this posted on the forum... I don't know if this was an official trip because I would have been there for sure!

It was not an official trip but this rule still applied. Does it still get logged?

The goal here is to capture all of the positive activities which occur as a result of the club, so yeah, even if it wasn't a publicly advertised trip, it should still get logged, as it helps us to justify the funding which allows us to buy the club gear which got used on the trip.

That said, I'm a big fan of publicising trips and making them as open and inclusive as possible, it encourages a social community inside the club and is very much a good thing in my opinion.

Good day out, possible storms were forecast instead we were sweating it up in some serious humidity. Highlight climb was Electric Flag 40m 14** definitely deserves its spot on the hit list.

KP two hours before gear sort(28/02/13 4-6pm), Brendan, myself and his mate. Used 1 club dynamic and 1 helmet. I started by leading DA followed by Brendans mate top roping and Brendan cleaning. We moved on to a moist MOBS lead by Brendan with a little sketchy dogging just below the crux, Brendans mate attempted but couldn't stick the first move up to the flake, cleaned by me.

Description Brendan, Jason and myself.

Brendan lead Halva followed by myself and Jason pinking it.

Brendan thought leading Kiwi (right next to Halva) would be a good idea. I personally thought seconding it would be a much better idea ;-) and told Brendan I didn't have any band aids, so don't fall below the first bolt.

The first bolt was fine but Brendan was having issues at what was probably the crux (and just below a bolt). After looking shaky for a bit he shouted out to watch him. I was ready for him to start down climbing when he just jumps off. A little while later once the rope eventually stopped his fall/jump, he shouts out, "wow I didn't think I would fall that far!". After getting back to the crux he did it fairly easily and up to the top without any further issues.

Jason put in a very good effort and pinked it without any dramas.

I then seconded it cleanly but was certainly glad to not be leading it. I don't ever recall climbing Kiwi in the past and would have to say I quite enjoyed it (but wouldn't want to lead it yet).

Oh, and thanks to Brendan for emailing out asking if anyone wanted join him at KP. 2 hours of climbing before gear night was much more enjoyable than staying late at work. 8-)
