Name: Nathan Farquhar

Age: 28

Occupation/Course: IT for QLD Government / IT (strangely enough)

Favourite Climbing Memory: While it technically isn't climbing, it would have to be the canyoning trip. As the other Nathan has already said, despite the huge walk-in and even longer (at least mentally) walk-out it was well worth it and an awesome day. It is just something so different and unique but kind of hard to explain. Nike says it well, Just do it!.

Climbing Goals: To have "fun". I read something on another forum a while ago discussing fun and rock climbing (...just found it, it was a thread on qurank and is quite a good read). To me having fun rock climbing probably relates most to a feeling of accomplishment. Leading a climb for the first time, doing a climb clean for the first time (the first time I did a clean run on idiot wind was a great feeling), pushing yourself to do more than what you think you can do. While you are actually doing it you might not be having the greatest time but once you have achieved it you just want to do it again. On a more concrete level I'd like to get more comfortable leading and get better at holding crimps (crimps =)

Tell us a bit about yourself: I knew the Cliffhangers existed from when I studied at QUT in 2003 and 2004. I had always thought that rock climbing would be something I'd like to do but didn't actually join up until March this year. I'm not sure why it actually took so long (8 year gap between finishing at QUT and joining the club) but I do tend to analyse things too much sometimes (although that can't be a bad thing for rock climbing). I'm one of those people who, no matter how good something may be, won't actually buy it until I *know* that there isn't something better out there (or if these is something better I won't get it until I have weighed the pro and cons of each option). I'd describe myself as a pessimistic optimist. Kind of like expect the worse but always look on the bright side because (a) you can't change the past, you only learn from it and (b) why be unhappy if you don't have to be; but I'm not an optimist because to quote one of my favourite demotivational posters, "Optimism: A road paved with disappointment". On the subject of analysing things too much and optimism, contrary to popular belief, (IMHO) "a glass half full" is actually the pessimistic view point... but that is a different topic and now I'm just rambling.

A picture of yourself:
So again, it's not technically climbing but it's probably the best one I have.

Name: Patrick Self

Age: 20

Occupation/Course: Freelance Photographer

Favourite Climbing Memory: I’m very new to climbing, so I have a relatively small range of experiences to choose from. Having said that I’m sure I won’t forget the first time I finished a climb at KP (two days ago!) with my oldest friend, Shawl.

Climbing Goals: I’d like to be a competent climber, and I’d like to learn to lead climb in the long term. What I want most though is to make great photographs, go places and meet people that I otherwise wouldn’t.

Tell us a bit about yourself: I’ve been working full time as a freelancer for the past three years, and next year I’ll be studying a bachelor of business (majoring in advertising). I never expected to go to university, and I’m very excited to.

I love to learn, and to read (mostly non-fiction). I also love to travel, even if I haven’t done much of it just yet. The places at the top of my list at the moment are Venezuela, Antarctica & Cambodia.

I'm very excited to be part of the club, and very grateful for everything I've already been taught.

If you’re interested, my portfolio is at:

I don’t have any pictures of myself climbing, so here’s one from a recent trip to Iceland instead!

Hello everyone! My name is Phoebe Mayne but don't hesitate in calling me Pheebs.

Age: 19

Occupation/Course/Both: Im currently a student at UQ studying Neuroscience

Favourite Climbing Memory: Toughie! One would definitely be buying my first pair of climbing shoes, La Sportiva Womens Miuras. I was so excited about them (this was my face -> :o ) that upon returning home, I tried climbing everything, literally. And I am sure that the upcoming Blue Mountains trip will also get right up there!

Climbing Goals: Towards mid next year, I would be extremely pleased if I could lead a 20/21 and also master the art of slack lining (I bought one today!)
Tell us a bit about yourself: I have been climbing for a year and a half now, but mostly indoors at urban. So, I am very excited to finally be expanding my climbing experiences and knowledge. I love gardening, hanging off things, contemporary dance and tea.

A picture of yourself: I actually don't have enough pictures of me climbing (Ill leave that up to Patrick on the trip)! But here is the best photo I could find.

Name: Will Chan

Age: 24

Occupation: Graduate Marketing and Sales person

Favourite Climbing Memory: Tough question, lots to choose from. Ticking Mr. Big back in 2009 (my first real multi); sending Crazy Horny, sending Screaming Insanity, and just hanging out with people at the bluies house

Climbing goals: This year, tick a 27. Lifetime? 30 by 30

A bit about me: Well I started climbing with the club half way through 2007, I quickly broke my wrist in 2008 and had to take a whole year off. Finally started climbing hard in the last couple of years and that's given me some great experiences. As of now I'm climbing in the 25/26 range and loving the freedom it gives me. I guess you could say I'm part of the old guard here at the cliffhangers. Don't be afraid to ask me anything about climbing :D I'm always ready and willing to help anyone with lines and technique if you need it!

Name: Ria Zoeller
Age: I’ve always been old.
Occupation/Course/Both: Studied Bachelor of Applied Science, with majors in Ecology and Environmental Science. Now work as a botanist/ecologist with a small specialist consultancy.
Favourite Climbing Memory: So many great ones choose from. Just being at Pt Perp is always amazing and Bluies trips still get me excited. In terms of memories that have really stuck with me, climbing the route North East Buttress (“11”) on Tibro certainly has to be up there, but not necessarily as a favourite or because it was quality climbing ....
Climbing Goals: At the moment it’s just to get climbing again and return to feeling okay whilst leading. In the longer term climb harder and get back into doing awesome adventure routes all over SEQ and Aus.
Tell us a bit about yourself: I’ve been climbing with the club for a very long time, so I can be a bit old, bitter and twisted, but if people are willing to make an effort I’m generally happy to help or teach or do whatever I can so that everybody can get on rock and have a great time.

Bringing this thread back from the distant past aww yeeeaaah

Name: Lauren "Spitz" Roy (I feel like it should almost be Spitz "Lauren" Roy by now)

Age: 20

Occupation/Course/Both: Studying Bachelor Nursing/ Public Health dual

Favourite Climbing Memory: So, so many. All of Bluies '13, including climbing, chilling, canyoning, pubbing and having sick times in general. There was not a bad day. Special mention to the day Rhys and I climbed black bart, leading Sweet Dreams, getting caught in a sketchy cave due to sudden rain at medlow bath and placing Shawl's entire trad rack in a boulder and proclaiming everything as "bomber" (including hexs just sitting atop a ledge). Beerwah Big Night was also one of the raddest and silliest things I've ever done, would recommend sleeping 200m off the ground in a hammock if you ever get the chance.

Climbing Goals: Keep getting stronger and leading stuff that is a challenge for me. Number 1 priority is to climb harder and more often so I can stop being a wuss all the time. My goal is 24 by Bluies this year and we'll see where we go to from there.

Tell us a bit about yourself: Current club Vice President, I spend entirely too much time climbing and doing club related things (not really, it's great). I've only been climbing for about 2 years now, so I still have a lot to learn, but if you ask I'm generally happy to pass on what I know or help you out  Other than being a climber I'm not so secretly a giant hippie, vego and a wannabe fashionable person and sexual health educator.

Name: Julia McCann
Age: 18
Occupation/Course/Both: I'm a part time nanny and in my first year of Psych and Justice
Favourite Climbing Memory: Still super new but my favourite climb would have to be one I did at Tibro recently, so awesome climbing so high up
Climbing Goals: Nothing hugely specific yet, I just really want to keep getting better and better and maybe become exec one day.
Tell us a bit about yourself: I've only been climbing for about 2 months so still copping the noob title. It's been such an awesome addition to my life that I don't even mind that I have no spare time and all the bruises. Always tough to describe yourself but if I had to I'd say I'm super self-reliant, unwaveringly happy, and have a pretty positive view of the world (not sure if that's a youthful naivety or not).

Age: 20

Occupation/Course/Both: Currently work for Downer EDi Engineering as a Trades Assistant (Ha! You were all thinking I'm an Engineer! Truth is I dropped out, and now I have money)

Favourite Climbing Memory: Pretty much any and every time I'm hanging out with Cliffhangers, whether at climbing or just socially

Climbing Goals: To become a Cliffhanger Guide, then sign someone else off as a Cliffhanger Guide

Tell us a bit about yourself: I'm a friendly guy, easy to get along with and always happy to help a friend out. I've been climbing since I joined the club at the start of last year and have enjoyed every second of it! I feel like this section should be written by other people, I'm shocking at describing myself

Name: Jacquelynn "nugget" Garza
Age: 19
Occupation/Course/Both: was doing mechatronics but lol math

Favourite Climbing Memory: as of yet to have one to top all climbing memories, although there was this one time danny took a fall on 3 men and a ladder, he fell halfwya down and i went halfway up. there was a lot of rope burn and head injury. Easter Brooyar is also definitely up there.

Climbing Goals: to be a confident leader, even on grades beyond my abilities. also just to get strong and be better in general.

Tell us a bit about yourself: I've been climbing for about 8 months now and definitely loving it, this is probably the first thing i've really liked ever. Err if i had to describe myself i suppose i've got a pretty pessimistic-realistic personality. I'm often impartial to everything and have a very limited number of facial expressions. Don't i sound like just the greatest.

here's a photo of me looking somewhat cool, even though i fell off this move a billion times.
